Product basics

What is Extra Slutty Olive Oil?

Extra Slutty Olive Oil is a premium, single-origin, extra virgin Arbequina olive oil from California, sold in a 14 fl oz (425 ml) black apothecary bottle. The olive oil equivalent of a situationship — all the good stuff, none of the baggage. Cold-pressed hot mess. Goes with everything, expects nothing.

Where is Extra Slutty Olive Oil made?

The oil is cold-pressed in California from Arbequina olives. Obviously single (origin). The brand is run by Banana for Scale, a small operation based in Oslo, Norway — so the bottle's been around, but the oil is 100% Californian.

What kind of olive oil is in the bottle?

Extra virgin Arbequina olive oil — California-grown, cold-pressed, single-origin. Arbequina is the variety; "extra virgin" means first pressing, low acidity, no chemicals; "cold-pressed" means no heat extraction. The good stuff, in other words.

What does Extra Slutty Olive Oil taste like?

Luxurious, mild, and versatile — Arbequina is the people-pleaser of the olive oil world. Buttery, slightly fruity, mellow finish, no aggressive pepper kick. Use it on anything you'd put in your mouth.

How big is the bottle?

14 fl oz (425 ml). Black apothecary glass. Fits on the counter without looking like a kitchen prop, photographs well, and won't survive a single dinner party with people who actually know what good olive oil tastes like.

How much does Extra Slutty Olive Oil cost?

$38 for a single bottle, $69 for the Twins (two-pack), $96 for the Threesome (three-pack). Standard "the more you buy the less it costs per bottle" math, dressed up to feel like a worse decision.

What does single origin olive oil mean?

Single origin means every olive in the bottle came from one place — in our case, one California farm. Most supermarket olive oil is blended from multiple countries, which is why it tastes like nothing. Single-origin oil tastes like where it came from. Obviously single (origin).

What is Arbequina olive oil?

Arbequina is a Spanish olive varietal that grows beautifully in California's climate. It produces a mild, buttery, fruity oil with a soft finish — versatile enough for dipping bread, drizzling on salad, or finishing pasta. The Arbequina is the polite one at the olive party.

Is this the same olive oil that's sold in Norway?

Yes — same bottle, same oil, same questionable life choices. Banana for Scale launched Extra Slutty Olive Oil in Norway first; the US version is the exact same product, shipped from US fulfillment so it gets to you faster.

Who makes Extra Slutty Olive Oil?

Banana for Scale, a small studio based in Oslo. We make products that make people smile, occasionally with social commentary, occasionally rooted in Norwegian culture, occasionally just because the idea was too good to ignore. Extra Slutty Olive Oil is the latter.

Quality & health

Is Extra Slutty Olive Oil actually good?

Yes. Don't let the name fool you. Premium, cold-pressed, single-origin, extra virgin Arbequina from California. Even your foodie friends will approve, and the few who don't were never your friends.

Is Extra Slutty Olive Oil extra virgin?

Yes — extra virgin Arbequina, cold-pressed, single-origin. Extra virgin means the oil comes from the first pressing, has free acidity below 0.8%, and was extracted without heat or chemicals. The "extra" is doing a lot of work on the label.

What does cold-pressed mean for olive oil?

Cold-pressed means the olives are mechanically pressed at low temperatures (under 80°F / 27°C) without heat or chemicals, which preserves flavor, antioxidants, and polyphenols. Cold-pressed but hot.

Does Extra Slutty Olive Oil have polyphenols?

Yes — polyphenol-rich, conscience-clear. Polyphenols are the antioxidants that make extra virgin olive oil good for you and give it that peppery back-of-the-throat kick when you drink it straight (which, no judgment). Putting the poly in polyphenols.

Is Extra Slutty Olive Oil organic?

It's not certified organic. It is single-origin, cold-pressed, extra virgin Arbequina from California — produced with care, just without the certification paperwork. If you need the green sticker, this isn't your oil.

Is California olive oil better than Italian olive oil?

Not better or worse — different. California olive oil is fresher (less time in shipping), more traceable (one country, often one farm), and held to stricter standards than most imported "Italian" oils, many of which are blended and mislabeled. Single-origin California Arbequina gets you closer to what olive oil is supposed to taste like.

How do I know if olive oil is high quality?

Three signals: a harvest date on the bottle, dark glass to block light, and a specific origin (one country, ideally one farm). Extra virgin and cold-pressed should be on the label. If the bottle is clear, blended, or sitting in a hot warehouse, the oil is past its prime by the time you open it.

Is olive oil healthy?

Extra virgin olive oil is one of the most studied healthy fats in the world — rich in monounsaturated fats and polyphenols, linked to lower inflammation and heart health. Part of a balanced diet. The perfect virtue for your vices.

Use & pairing

What do I pair Extra Slutty Olive Oil with?

Use it for salad, pasta, bread, focaccia, ice cream, or honestly anything that benefits from a generous drizzle. Use it to rub your nipples with. We don't judge. But it's probably best used for dipping focaccia.

Is this a finishing oil or a cooking oil?

Both, but it really shines as a finishing oil — drizzled on salads, pasta, soup, focaccia, vegetables, or vanilla ice cream right before serving. You can cook with it, but burning a premium single-origin Arbequina is a slightly hostile move toward the olive farmer.

Can I cook with Extra Slutty Olive Oil?

You can. Arbequina has a smoke point around 410°F, which handles sautéing and roasting fine. But if you're searing a steak or deep-frying, use a cheaper oil and save this one for finishing. That's where it earns its $38.

Will olive oil taste good on ice cream?

Surprisingly, yes — vanilla ice cream, sea salt, and a drizzle of good olive oil is a real dessert, not a TikTok stunt. Arbequina's buttery, mild profile is perfect for it. Use liberally.

What about olive oil in coffee?

Olive oil in coffee (the "oleato" trend Starbucks ran with) is real and tastes better than it sounds — smoother body, slightly bitter, slightly sweet. Extra Slutty's mild Arbequina works well for it without overpowering the coffee.

Olive oil in cocktails — is that a thing?

Yes — the dirty martini with olive oil float ("oleato martini") is a real cocktail bar move. A few drops of finishing oil on top of a Belvedere martini changes the texture and adds richness. Pairs with good friends and bad decisions.

What's the best use for finishing olive oil?

Anything where the oil is the last thing added, not heated: drizzling on salads, soups, hummus, ricotta toast, grilled vegetables, pasta, focaccia, burrata, vanilla ice cream, scrambled eggs, or a steak right after it rests. The point is to taste the oil, not cook it away.

Is Extra Slutty Olive Oil good for focaccia?

Yes — pretty much made for it. Arbequina's buttery mildness is the classic Italian focaccia profile, even though this one's from California. Dip the bread, dimple the dough, dress the crust. Bread and oil walked so dinner could run.

Does Extra Slutty Olive Oil work for salad dressings?

Perfect for vinaigrettes. The mild, buttery Arbequina profile won't fight the vinegar, mustard, or shallots. Mix 3 parts oil to 1 part acid, salt, and you have a better dressing than 95% of restaurants. Versatile AF.

Gifting

Is Extra Slutty Olive Oil a good gift?

It's one of the better gifts you can buy for under $50. Premium California olive oil, in a bottle that looks like nothing else on the kitchen counter, with a name that's a conversation piece on its own. Gift to friends who know how to have a good time.

Is the packaging gift-worthy?

Yes — black apothecary bottle with a yellow label, ships in a clean box. No corporate filler, no inflated packaging. Looks like a gift the moment it lands. Photographs well for the "look what I got" Instagram story it will inevitably star in.

Do you offer gift wrapping?

The bottle ships in a clean branded box that's already gift-presentation-grade. We don't offer additional gift wrap — the packaging is the gift wrap, and it photographs better than most florist tissue paper.

Can I add a gift note?

Yes — at checkout, there's a notes field. Add the recipient's name, an inside joke, a vague threat — whatever. We'll include it with the order.

What's a good gift for a foodie who has everything?

A bottle of single-origin, cold-pressed, extra virgin Arbequina from California in a bottle they'll keep on the counter — Extra Slutty Olive Oil. Even your foodie friends will approve. It's the gift for the person who doesn't need anything but appreciates good taste.

Is Extra Slutty Olive Oil appropriate for a wedding or bachelorette gift?

Depends on the wedding. For a housewarming, bachelorette, bridal shower, or "they have a good sense of humor" wedding, yes. For "we registered at Williams Sonoma and they vote in primaries about napkin rings," maybe not.

Returns & logistics

What is the return policy?

Our goal is for every customer to be totally satisfied. If you're not, contact us within 14 days of delivery and we'll work it out. Per our refund policy, unopened bottles in original packaging can be returned (buyer covers return shipping). If the bottle arrives damaged, we replace it on us.

My bottle arrived broken — what now?

Send us a photo via the contact form within 7 days of delivery and we'll ship a replacement on us. Glass happens. UPS happens. We've got you.

How long does olive oil keep?

Unopened, Extra Slutty Olive Oil stays at peak quality for about 12 months from the harvest date. Once opened, use it within 2-3 months for best flavor. Olive oil doesn't go "bad" like milk — it just gets tired and stops being interesting.

How should I store olive oil?

Keep it away from heat, light, and air. Cool pantry, cap on tight, not next to the stove. The black apothecary bottle already blocks light, so you're halfway there. Don't refrigerate it — the oil clouds and you'll worry it's broken.

Is the bottle recyclable?

Yes — the glass bottle is recyclable curbside in most US municipalities. Remove the label (or don't, your call). The cap is recyclable separately depending on your local rules.

Brand & misc

What does Banana for Scale have to do with olive oil?

Banana for Scale is the small studio that makes Extra Slutty Olive Oil — and other things that make people smile, occasionally with social commentary, occasionally rooted in Norwegian culture. The olive oil isn't really about bananas, scale, or Norway, but the studio behind it is.

Do you offer wholesale or bulk?

We're open to wholesale conversations with the right partners — specialty food shops, gift stores, hotels with a sense of humor. Email via the contact form with your store and what you have in mind.

Press inquiries?

Yes — we love press, especially the kind that doesn't make us explain the name. Email via the contact form with "Press" in the message and we'll get back to you fast.
